Helldivers 2 has set a new benchmark by selling over 12 million copies in its first 12 weeks, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, according to Sony.

During an investor conference, Sony revealed that Arrowhead's shooter for PlayStation 5 and PC has exceeded expectations, achieving this significant sales milestone by May 5, 2024. Helldivers 2 has surpassed Sony Santa Monica's God of War Ragnarok, which sold 11 million copies within 75 days of its release on PS4 and PS5 in November 2022.

Released simultaneously on PC and PS5, Helldivers 2 supports crossplay, enhancing the cooperative PVE action. Players assume the role of a Helldiver, fighting alien robots and creatures in a multiplayer galactic war. Arrowhead continues to enrich the game with regular updates, including Premium War Bonds that introduce new weapons and gear.

Helldivers 2, launched at a price of €39.99, experienced a surge in popularity that initially caused significant server issues. As Arrowhead resolved these launch problems, the player base continued to grow, and Helldivers 2 became one of the most played games on Steam, peaking at 458,709 concurrent users. Sony has not disclosed the concurrent player figures for the PS5.

Since then, Arrowhead has clashed with Sony over the publisher and IP owner's decision to require PC players to link their accounts to PlayStation Network to continue playing.
